Arch C. Klumph: The Visionary Behind Rotary's Endowment for Global Good
Arch C. Klumph was the seventh President of Rotary and is considered the Father of the Rotary Foundation. He proposed the concept of an “endowment” for Rotary at the annual conference in Atlanta in 1917. When asked the purpose of such a “fund” his response resonates today…”to do good in the world.” Soon after President Klumph’s proposal in Atlanta the first donation to the “endowment” was provided by the Rotary Club of Kansas City, KS. It arrived as a check in the amount of $26.50. Today, the Foundation has burgeoned to an impressive sum exceeding US$1 billion. It disburses grants exceeding $1 million per day, supporting projects spearheaded by Rotarians.
